Beach!

I've noticed that I'm not obsessively checking my day planner every 15 minutes since being down the Shore. I suppose that's a good thing. On the other hand, at any given time down here, I have no idea what day or time it is. It is August 16th today, right? iCal's not lying to me again? Because sometimes it does that. I know the purpose of being on vacation is to not care about what day it is but knowing things like that gives me a little sense of control. It's a healthy way to express my control freakishness.
A conversation with some friends a few weeks ago revealed the different things that "vacation" means to different people. For me, "vacation" usually means:

  • beach
  • spending the day on said beach-- plunking your stuff down on the sand between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m., and not moving until 5 or 6 p.m. Don't get up unless there's a hurricane bearing down on you (I realize that I get this from my mother)
  • staying up until 11 p.m., 1 a.m., 2 a.m., etc. and then sleeping in until 8, 9, 10, or 11 a.m. just because I can, dammit.
Apparently, some people have a different idea of what a "vacation" is, those freaks :-)

  1. Your version of a vacation sounds PERFECT to me (although I am an early to bed, early to rise type of person). What can be better than a day on the beach?!
